Hello, my name is Ruth, and I make photographic pictures. I use a camera of course so you might think I should say I take photographs, but usually the camera doesn’t quite ‘see’ what I want it to see, so I work on what it has captured to make the picture that I saw, or one that is better than what I saw.
So how did all this start? Well I was mostly a happy snapper at the start, Box Brownie as a teenager, then one of those strange devices that had a disk holding the film in tiny squares, then various film cameras, and then family and work which kept me very busy, when I only took photos on celebration days and holidays, as you do, with memories stashed away in photo albums,
And then I joined a photography club, and my eyes were opened. Gradually, I have to say, and one day my enthusiasm was given a huge boost by a visit to the club by the wonderful Barry Thomas. He gave a demonstration of what you could do with a photograph from a digital camera, and a computer with something on it called ‘Photoshop’, and a printing machine instead of a darkroom.
Wow! No waiting to finish the film, no waiting to get the pictures back from processing, no fiddling about with negatives or slides. Instead there was your picture on the computer screen, and with Photoshop you could make it into the image you had in your minds eye, or change things to your liking, or remove those ugly telephone wires in the sky. And then, to complete the excitement, you could connect the printer, put the paper in, and watch you picture gradually emerge. Something you had created from start to finish, your own artwork.
So here on these ‘pages’, are some of my best images. Work I am satisfied with. This website has been a long time in the making and is still in its early stages, so won’t have many pictures on it yet. Please come back and see how it is progressing………
